6 tips to moisturise dry facial skin

Dry facial skin can come up for different reasons.  To name a few here are some possibilities.

  • Exposure to the weather elements
  • Cold climate
  • Mature age
  • Reactions to chemical
  • Reactions to medication
  • Nutritional considerations
  • Harsh skin treatments
  • Skin type

No matter what is the reason you want your skin to look the best it can be.

Let’s have a look at 6 tips that can make an important difference to the dryness of your skin.

  • Drink good quality water

You have heard it before, our bodies are 80 % water.  This liquid is an integral part of the good functioning of our body.  It is present in the tissues which the skin is a large part.  Plump skin starts with good hydration.  Aim at drinking 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day which excludes coffee or tea (except if it is a herbal tea).

  • Gentle cleanse

To help maintain your skin integrity and suppleness avoid harsh cleanser which can strip the natural oils at the surface of your skin and making it even drier.  If you need to remove make up choose a creamy cleanser that is made from natural, gentle, good quality vegetable oils such as almond, apricot, olive.  Favour cleanser which have a simple formulation:  free of synthetic preservatives, alcohol, petroleum ingredients, artificial fragrances.  If you don’t have to remove make up some tepid water can do fine work as a very gentle cleanser.

  • Night care

Once you have gently cleansed your skin take the opportunity to nurture your skin overnight.  As you rest the body relaxes and the systems go into repair mode.  Applying a natural facial oil can do wonders.  Keep it simple.  No need for complex formulation.  Simple poly unsaturated vegetable oils such as calendula oil, almond, apricot, jojoba, olive bring very good results.  All these oils penetrate quickly enough to not leave any traces on your pillow.  Applying a good quality oil on your face for a week will bring you visible results.

  • Extra night care

If your skin is very dry consider applying the facial oil first followed by a rich facial moisturising cream.  Facial oil and rich facial moisturiser bring great results to dry facial skin.  Choose a rich facial moisturiser that contains natural, vegetable oils such as calendula oil, almond, apricot, jojoba, olive.  Avoid moisturiser containing synthetic preservatives, artificial fragrances, petroleum ingredients or ethanol.

You might well find that a week of this treatment is enough to bring marked improvements which then you can maintain with only the facial oil at night.

  • Day care

In the morning, before to head out apply a facial oil which will penetrate quickly while still nurturing your skin.  Once the oil has penetrated you can either:  apply make-up or apply a light natural facial moisturiser.  This will keep your skin nurtured and well nourished.

  •  Eat good quality oil

Good quality oil inside your body will feed your skin from the inside out. 1 to 2 tablespoons per day is all you need on your yoghurt, fruits, soup, green salad.  Favour extra virgin, poly unsaturated vegetable oil such as olive oil, sunflower oil, walnut oil.  Make sure they are fresh and taste good.

Once you have applied those simple 6 tips, see your skin take on a new life.
